Sarah Jessica Parker has done some real damage to her feet over the years and she and her podiatrist had a nice long sit down. It was only after she twisted her ankle on the set of I Don’t Know How She Does It that she discovered she had another foot issue.

SJP sat down with Net-a-Porter’s digital magazine, The Edit, and discussed her situation. “I went to a foot doctor and he said, ‘Your foot does things it shouldn’t be able to do. That bone there…you’ve created that bone. It doesn’t belong there.'”

OUCH.

SJP could have one of several different things going on here. Women who wear high, high heels (for say 18 hours a day) cause their achilles tendon to contract and shorten, thus pulling on the heel bone (or calcaneus) excessively. When this occurs, the body tries to “fix” it, causing additional bone growth formation.

Or, it could be a heel spur that developed in the direction of the pull from the Achilles tendon.

It’s also a possibility that it’s a bone spur on the bottom of the heel from excessive tightening from the plantar fascia (the muscle that stretches across the bottom of your foot).

News like that had to hit hard for the fashionista known for racing all over New York in her towering Manolo Blahniks while filming Sex & the City.

“I literally ran in heels,” she explained. “I worked 18-hour days and never took them off. I wore beautiful shoes, some made better than others, and never complained.”

Now the actress’s days will most likely be spent wearing more foot-friendly flats, but we have no doubt she won’t be able to break the high heel habit on the red carpet.

Moderation is key with high heels. A little common sense goes a long way. If they look dangerous to walk in, they probably are. If they hurt your feet, take them off.
