Synovitis is inflammation of the lining inside the joint capsule. This could happen to any joint but is commonly seen in ankles and subtalar joints. The most common cause of synovitis is overuse of the joint. This could be in athletes or people with physically demanding jobs who have repetitive movements. Treatments include injections or medications. Rest and icing is also very helpful. At times physical therapy is needed. At Lexington Podiatry we strive to find the root of the problem, which would include using orthotics or bracing to prevent the problem from happening again.
