Dropped metatarsal bone or "metatarsalgia" is where the forefoot hurts on the bottom. Usually worse when barefoot and can even have callus or open wound. A dropped metatarsal head causes malalignment of the foot and can make the patient walk different than they used to. Patients could have this from arthritis, bunion, trauma, or genetics. Treatments include rest, ice, injections or medication. A good pair of shoes with a custom orthotic can help realign the foot and help the patient walk in a more corrected way.
