Plantar fascia tears are usually noted to be acute pain in the arch of the foot after a trauma. This could even include playing with grandkids in the front yard. Most patients experience severe pain and "egg shaped" swelling on the bottom of the heel/arch. Fortunately this is not a surgical problem. At Lexington Podiatry we treat most plantar fascia tears conservatively with casting or a walking boot. We then follow through with the patient and use custom orthotics to prevent future injuries and keep the feet healthy and supported.
