A ligament sprain on the top of the foot can occur from injury or overuse. This is more rare than an ankle sprain. If left untreated, this type of injury can cause serious damage. Another term for this area of the foot is Lisfranc. Aggressive conservative care is always important. Rest with offloading, icing, and at times medication are required for a full recovery. If the foot is not better conservatively surgery can be warranted.
