Caring for Our Veterans

Caring for Our Veterans

At Lexington Podiatry, we have a special connection to veterans' healthcare, as both Dr. Freels and Dr. Carter completed their podiatric residency training at VA hospitals. This experience has given them a unique perspective and expertise in addressing the podiatric needs of our nation's veterans. Due to the physical demands and conditions they are exposed to during their service, Veterans often face conditions that may impact them during and after serving.

Some of the most common foot health conditions we see in our veterans are:

1. Plantar Fasciitis

This condition, characterized by heel pain and inflammation of the plantar fascia, which can result from prolonged standing, walking, or running in military boots.

2. Stress Related Muscle Tension

Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder may experience heightened levels of stress and anxiety, which can manifest as foot pain and muscle tension.

3. Injuries + Sprains

Veterans may sustain injuries to the feet and ankles during military training or combat, leading to conditions such as sprains, fractures, or chronic pain. Some symptoms may be overlooked and result in further complications down the line, which is why it's so important to address even the smallest signs of foot pain + abnormalities!

At Lexington Podiatry, we provide comprehensive care and treatment options to address the unique foot health needs of veterans. Some common treatments for podiatric conditions in veterans may include:

1. Custom Orthotic Devices

Custom orthotics can provide support, cushioning, and alignment for the feet to alleviate pain and improve foot function.

2. Physical Therapy

Targeted exercises and therapies can help improve strength, flexibility, and range of motion in the feet and lower limbs, aiding in recovery from musculoskeletal injuries.

3. Pain Management Techniques

Our podiatrists offer a range of pain management options, including medications, injections, and non-invasive therapies, to help alleviate foot pain and discomfort.

On this Veterans Day, we express our gratitude to all veterans for their service and dedication to our country. We are committed to providing compassionate and expert foot care for veterans at Lexington Podiatry. If you or a loved one is a veteran experiencing foot pain or discomfort, please don't hesitate to schedule an appointment with us for personalized care and treatment.

Happy Veterans Day from Lexington Podiatry!
